MY LOVE/BREAKUP SONG TO TEXAS
MAY 29, 2021
On May 29, 2021, I graduated from Lake Travis High school in Austin, Texas. While I was filled with excitement that I would soon be moving to Nashville I knew a part of me will always feel at home in texas. Making the big move to Tennessee was emotional and inspired a lot of the lyrics for Texas, Tennessee.

i've always loved sending and receiving mail... but Y'ALL, getting packages during college and when living in another state is so exciting! anyone that knows me, understands my love for handwritten cards; i'm convinced it's a love language of mine. so if you want to be pin pals let me know!

Your mark is on my heart right where you left it
You'll be right here no matter where I'm headed
My roots run deep in this ground
For a little big town that’s made just for dreaming
I’ve got one that you helped me believe in
I promise I won’t let you down
Hey, Texas, Tennessee is where I’ve got to be right now
But you know a piece of me will stay in my little town
You’ve got my heart but
The other’s everything I hope know
Don’t think that
I won’t cry and wanna pack up and come back
The first time I fall flat on my back
What a day that’s gonna be
In 18 years you’ve taught me not to give up when it’s hard
But leaving is the hardest part
When thinking about how I wanted to portray the lyrics to this song visually... the first thing that came to mind was the contrast of where I'm from and where I currently live. I moved from Texas 🤠 to Belmont, which happens to be 2 miles away from broadway in Nashville. 🏙 The biggest difference for me is that I've always associated Nashville as the place where I can confidently chase my dreams. I'm so grateful to have such creative and insanely talented friends that helped bring my vision to life; Liz Huber and Sarah Seeliger thank you so much for being down to drive through VERY chaotic broadway traffic on a Saturday night for some epic shots. LOVE Y'ALL!
Gods promise to us. He reminded me of all of his power and presence during the 16 hour road trip.

This picture was taken on the way to Karleigh's house, who I co-wrote Texas, Tennessee with. It was a week or so after I moved in and I remeber being so grateful for everything in my life. Windows down honstely probably listening to doja cat ot carly pearces new record and in my rear view was the most beautiful sunset and skyline of my new home.

Texas, Tennessee was written with Karliegh Paige. She was the one person that I felt understood me enough to tell a true and personal story for this song. Moving to Nashville was terrifying and exhilarating; if I'm being honest moving in general is uncomfortable. I came to the write with a verse and some ideas, and Karliegh helped create a beautiful illustration of emotion for this song. We ended up with the idea that Texas,Tennessee was a love letter to Texas but in the same sense I was breaking up with Texas to move to Nashville.
